A line has been running through my head for months now: “There are producers, and there are consumers. Are you settling for being just a consumer?” It is kind of haunting me, to tell the truth. You see, I look forward to winding down at the end of the day by reading Twitter posts and links to people’s blogs. I’ve been happily doing this for two years now.
The thing is, since leaving the classroom for the library I have missed the energy I got from planning and reflecting with my fourth grade colleagues. As a librarian, yes, I am collaborating with teachers. But I mean collaborating with colleagues doing the same exact job, being in the same boat, really looking at what is working and what is not and brainstorming how you can make things better..I don’t have that any more. I am the only one in my building who is a teacher librarian for grades 4 and 5.
I yearn for connections with people who are doing the exact same job as me and hopefully others who have a passion for teaching and children’s literature. I have so many questions and a lot to say. That is why I am finally putting myself out there. Inspired by people I admire such as Katherine Sokolowski @katsok and Meredith Moore @mercolleen, I hope to make connections and forge discussions about best ways to teach and learn with you.
